When nothing is in your control this is what you need to do

The evil that Noah faced in his time was spectacularly monstrous. So corrupt had the mankind become that the toxicity leaked into even the life of the earth. There are many questions that arise about Nephilim, judgment, and the Ark itself, and while they are good to ask and think about, they can distract you in this instance from a very powerful lesson that has come straight with you and I.

God took every animal, clean and unclean, and had them put in the ark while the flood waters of judgment raged. In the same way, Jesus on the cross took in people from every tribe, race, nation, and language and shielded them from judgment. When the waters receded, Noah and his family and all with him, had a new life. The earth was now purified so to speak.

As I pondered this it felt a little like the Ark was a womb and out comes a new creation. Perhaps it symbolizes our born again experience? Born as sons and daughter of God when we believe in Christ, we are now a new creation.

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so even
we also should walk in newness of life. (Rom 6:4)

But there is something deeper here and even more relevant to us. You might find yourself like Noah, trapped in a windowless boat with no rudder or sail to steer in an endless sea of water.

Storms and silence, all at once. And that’s when Jesus comes in. He takes you within Himself and rather than leave you out to be soaked and cold, He shields you from the judgment and keeps you safe.

We may want some control, at least to have control of where the boat goes, but even that is denied. So what is there to do? Nothing, but rest and wait. That’s what Noah’s name means, rest. And when we do and wait patiently, soon we’ll find the waters receding. And a new land, fresh arises before us.

Our Father is the God of fresh beginnings. Is that what you need today?
