Know your true name!
There was once a man, who had a wife, a great clan and much wealth. His name was Abram - the exalted father. And for all the grandeur of his fame and name, he was childless. Eventually he did become the proud father of Ishmael. Though he loved him dearly, he wasn't his wife's son, but the son of her servant (this was a customary practice of the time). But the day came when God chose to call him Abraham... father of multitudes. And that day made a single man the father of many nations today.
You're about to see a great and precious principle that God Himself uses all the time. The Lord called a man, not by his achievements or his possessions, nor his deeds and morals... instead, God chose to call His friend by what he already was in His eternally seeing eyes. He called this man by what He wanted him to become. When the Lord looked at childless Abram, He saw a proud and glad father. And when the Lord looked at Abraham as the father of but one child, He saw a patriarch and giant of history, a father of many nations!
What God calls you means everything. It defines you - not just your past or present, but your future and destiny. Your parents gave you a name. But your heavenly Father gives you your true name... and though we may not know this name yet (Rev 2:17), there is something to learn here for us today.
You are not what you do (your job, your achievements, your morality or your sins) nor are you defined by your possessions (money, cars, houses, health or debts, sickness and misery). You have a real name, given to you by your Father and this name is who you truly are.
What are you to God?
You are His beloved Son and Daughter... no one is more important to Him than you.
You are the apple of His eye... He delights to see you and is already so pleased and proud of you.
You are a king and priest... yes, as Christ is, so are you (Rev. 1:6, 1 John 4:17).
You are crowned with glory and grace and you lack nothing good (Ps 84:11).
You are strong, righteous, and wise. You have a heart of gold and your words are choice silver. You are mighty on the earth and called to greater things! (too many verse speak of that!)
This is how your heavenly Father sees and calls you. This day, start seeing yourself like He sees you. And start calling yourself by what He calls you. And what is not now, will be!
