When God is late (part 1) - Waning Womb

“So Sarai said to Abram, ‘See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children.’” Gen. 16:2

Ten long years had passed since God promised Sarai’s, husband, Abram that he would become a great nation and yet the sound of children in their tent was utterly absent. She was now seventy five years old and as the years waned she felt that her womb did too. Dark thoughts began to cloud her judgment. When she saw the little children of her servant girls scurrying across their camp she began to think that maybe God’s promise wasn’t for her afterall. She turned to Abram and confessed out loud “the LORD has restrained me from bearing children”. But God was not late. Sarai just had to wait a little longer… fifteen years longer to be precise! Rather then remember the goodness of the Lord in blessing her family so far and the entire tribe of Abram, she began to think God had punished her by preventing her from bearing her husband a child. Beloved of God, today if your Father’s promises seem like they never will be fulfilled recognize His goodness, confess His kindness, remember His blessing and enjoy life while waiting. Every promise of God is yes in Christ! And as God’s child you can rest assured that He will never withhold a good thing from you. He is never late! (to be continued…)
