What is God?

We always ask “who is God”? But these days I have begun to ask “What is God?” Not that He isn’t a Living Being, A Person, if you will – but rather What is His Essence. Jesus describes God as “Spirit” (John 4:24) literally “Breath”.

Now I want you to take a step back here. What is God’s Name? It is “I AM” I want you to think this through thoroughly because there is so much confusion and mystery around the Name and rightly so. Observant Jews of the day, even after millennia are actually so obsessed by it’s power they are afraid to pronounce it – though it was never forbidden to do so in their Torah.

So God has answered the question Himself about “who He is” and “what He is”. He is Spirit – the Divine Breath – the Great, Universal, Divine Consciousness!

What is consciousness? It is self-awareness.  What does it mean to be created in God’s image now? It means we are created in the “I AM”’s image, in the image of this consciousness and are of His Breath “Spirit” – all of us, man and woman, all humankind  - of all the creatures of God’s creation, He did for us what He did not for any other thing, ‘living’ or not – namely, He blew into the dust of earth with His “Breath” creating humans!

You see that is how we are in God’s image. We are the most self-aware beings with the highest levels of consciousness in the Universe (unless He created other beings in His image away from earth who also share this privilege) among all His creation. This is why angels look at us with a certain longing as Peter says in (1 Pet 1:12). Angels are sophisticated and powerful beings it seems but they are not created in God’s image, in the Image of the I AM, the Divine Consciousness that defines us over and above every thing in Creation.

So what does this really mean? This is where it gets really, really juicy. This is where the rubber meets the road, this is where lives are changed!

Are you ready for it? I haven't even scratched the surface.
