A troubled heart is a choice... make the right one - Day 6: Thirty Day Meditations to Abundant Life!

The heart is the wellspring of life, says the Bible. The heart is where all the issues of life spring forth. How important is it then to maintain your heart in good order? Many of us think that our thoughts and emotions are relatively out of our control. But they are not and more importantly Jesus spoke about our hearts as if they were totally in our control. And that greatly comforts me.

This thirty day series is really about abundant life and one of the most sinister, life-sucking things out there is worry... worry festers in the heart, ruining the life of the mind as it slowly erodes the health of the body as well (stress hormones are notorious for lowering the immune system, and a high-stress/anxiety life causes these hormones to be produced in greater amounts). And that's why its so comforting to hear Jesus' exhortation to His friends, on the eve of His crucifixion;

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

It's so simple. "Let not..." You are the one who does the letting! And what is this based on? The peace that comes from being rooted in His awesome love for you. So today root out worry and anxiety, by taking a choice, a decision to cast it away and instead determine to trust in Him... God doesn't just love you in theory, His love works for you. And if there is any force in this universe that you can depend on, it's His love!
