Take charge over your mind

One of the most difficult things for people to ever do will be to control their thoughts. Many find that their minds are like a TV set that is constantly changing channels. They drift through life, 'surfing' from one wave to another, helpless to do anything. They are always reacting to the 'TV' airwaves going through their mind. Directionless, purposeless, goalless - this can be true for the godless and godly alike. What's worse is the vast majority are completely unaware that this is even happening. These people are under the illusion that their thoughts are really theirs.

But you have the mind of Christ!

Do you desire mental clarity? Wouldn't you like to wake up and be in complete control of your thoughts, not just for a moment, but all the time? What if your mind and heart was like a crystal clear stream flowing with thoughts of abundant life? They are pure, they are holy, they are delightful, full of creativity, light, hope, kindness and honor. Imagine for a second you spent a day with such kind of thoughts? Now imagine you spent a month, a year... a lifetime! What kind of an effect do you think it would have on you? Your family? Your work? Your nation?

I believe every human is endowed with the ability to turn the TV tuner to whatever channel they desire... every human being. This is not the privilege of the 'saved'. So what is the inheritance of the saint, then? That is what really makes the difference! That inheritance is this; the very mind of Christ, the Spirit of God and a new, regenerated spirit that knows no sin, darkness or harm, one that is only powerful, strong, full of joy, kindness and beauty. Those who experience the new birth, have a new spirit and that is why Jesus used the words 'born again' to refer to those who saw Him for who He is and trusted Him. We are now, each of us, a 'new spirit' when we are born again, with a body and soul (or the mind and heart - remember, the Semitic and Biblical concept of heart and mind, is one. Our soul is the seat of our thought and emotional life.).

The thing is, so many believers who have this new spirit don't realize their minds and hearts have such an unlimited potential of untapped power - not just the power every human has as a son of Adam or daughter of Eve, but as a child of the Most High, the Royal Priesthood of God. They live on goldmines yet scrape the garbage in search of tin cans. That goldmine is a heart and mind guarded by the peace of Christ, one where your new spirit is in full control of your mind and heart. This is the treasure of the heart that Jesus spoke of, the treasure that is made evident and manifest by the words one uses.

So when you watch TV and see a terribly sad movie, you leave with thoughts of tragedy or a heart downcast in sadness. You watch the news and become scared of war, invasion, terror or disease. When your spouse says a sharp word, you fume in anger and when the opposite occurs the day is sunny bright. When you receive negative feedback from your colleagues you retreat, wounded and hurt but when you receive a complement about your clothes, your lighten up. Or when your circumstances look less than favorable you begin to worry and be anxious. A tell tale sign is also apparent when you're surrounded by incompetence, corruption and ineptitude, you complain and nag.

You know what is really happening? In every one of those instances, you are giving others the power to control you! When something you read or saw on TV or the internet moves you for ill or good, you gave it the right to control your emotions and direct your thoughts. When others cause you to be angry or sad, we give them power over us. And when we complain, we empower the negative around us to have a major say in our lives.

The very seed I can leave for you to plant in your soul today, is simply this; you are in control of your mind and thoughts and feelings... they are not in control of you. They never were. Will you realize this today? In an instant - I tell you the truth - you're life can truly change!

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry." Col 3:1-5
