Seek the Kingdom - Day 7: Thirty Day Meditations to Abundant Life!

Jesus was no friend to poverty. And when He stood in front of a crowd made up of peasants and country folk somewhere on the hills of the backwater province of Galilee 2000 years ago, He stood before people who may have had very meager earnings. And yet He told them something so profoundly counter-intuitive by the world's standards... "Don't worry about what to eat or wear". He revealed the loving heart of their Father to them, that He would surely provide. But He didn't stop there, He left them with something very necessary to do too.

But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. (Luke 12:31)

Many will say this has to do with doing things for God. Going to church, serving the poor, the community, perhaps evangelism, prayer and all sorts of activities that keep many Christians busy. As nice as these may be, is that really what it means to seek the Kingdom? Was God really telling these poor folk, "Work for Me, and I will work for you in making sure you get what you need."? Or was there something deeper.

There is much to be said and discovered about the Kingdom. I think we really don't understand this at all. I believe God did not create us to be religious... God is not religious. And He created us in His image... and so thinking that seeking God's kingdom is really a matter of being religious isn't based on truth. So what is really seeking His Kingdom?

Listen to Paul... "The kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." (Rom 14:17)

I love this verse. It tells you exactly what the Kingdom of God is and isn't. Jesus is Life, He loves Life and He is in the business of bringing Life and more Life still! Righteousness, Peace, Joy... the Fruits of Life! This is the kingdom of heaven. I really do have to say about this Kingdom but suffice it to say at this point, if you want to seek the kingdom then embrace Life... I find it so sad that many embrace death and deny life and somehow think they are pleasing God. Remember, we are created in the Image of the Creator of Life! So this is how you will seek the Kingdom and work with your Father. He wants you to come along His side so that you do what you see your Father doing.

I hope you'll be able to meditate on this truth today, the truth of the Kingdom, seeking it with all your heart... it is a matter of peace, joy and righteousness in the Holy Spirit. The Kingdom, Jesus said was already not merely among us but within us, the Reign of the Almighty, working through you and I.

I wonder with great eagerness, how this will look... I think that perhaps it will be more glorious than anything mankind has seen on this earth.
