Why Jesus called Himself the Son of Man - Real Humanity!
"Verily, verily, I say to you, he who is believing in me, the works that I do -- that one also shall do, and greater than these he shall do..." (John 14:12 YLT)

We've all heard the amazing things Jesus did. From changing water to wine and raising the dead, He healed thousands, taught with unchallenged wisdom and delivered the many from darkness. Today, as believers in Jesus we look to Him to do the same things in our lives. So we ask and pray and wait. Very good. But do you know that Jesus said you would do the same things He did and even greater works (John 14:12)?
But you see, Jesus didn't do those things simply as the Son of God, like a man endowed with superhuman powers. At the contrary. He did it all as the Son of Man! Sure, Jesus brazenly said that He was God Himself when He boldly declared "Before Abraham was, I AM" (i.e. He is Yahowa; John 8:58). We think Jesus did all that stuff because He is, after all God's Son, but that is just simply wrong. Do you now understand why He very often referred to Himself, rather mysteriously I might add, in the third person as "the Son of Man"? Because He was showing us what kind of people we would become as we believe in Him. He was showing us what humanity was made to look like!
What does this mean for you and I, back here in the real world? Perhaps we are not so helpless as we have thought. Maybe there is more to true Christianity than simply theology and beliefs. How can it be otherwise?! I can not wait to see the church rise up in this very real revelation... that everything Jesus did, we can do too, in Him!
